Visi magazine gets new owner

New Media, long-time publisher of Visi magazine has acquired the title from owner Media24 Magazines.

"The magazine has achieved almost iconic status in the South African design and décor landscape since its launch, and we are thrilled that we now have ownership of this brand," said New Media MD Bridget McCarney. "We're planning some significant changes to the business model in order to ensure that we're well positioned to grow this title into the future, but the heart of the brand will remain the brand we all know and love."

According to McCarney, the transfer of ownership of the title was motivated by the company's recognition that, while the magazine was facing commercial challenges, with some fresh thinking it could experience good commercial growth. "It is a flagship title for us, in which we see great value and we are committed to making it work."

Cutting edge

Since 1998, the magazine has had a reputation for being on the cutting edge of South African design and décor and has often pushed the boundaries with evocative covers, shoots and content. Unlike other design and décor magazines published in South Africa, it is 100% South African and reflects the best of the country's design innovation. By incorporating international trends into the mix, it has become a guide for décor professionals and readers.

It has launched its own free iPhone app Covet, a design social network, which serves as an open invitation to the design community to share the designs they have created, those they have spotted and especially those that they covet, with others.

The next issue will be out on Wednesday 16 May 2012. For more, go to www.visi.co.za.
