Don Pinnock new Getaway editor
Don Pinnock has been promoted to editor of Getaway, replacing David Bristow, who, after 14 years with the magazine, has chosen to focus on writing books as well as pursue his passion for natural history and the wilderness.
Other appointments include Jacqueline Lahoud as publisher and Justin Fox, senior Getaway photojournalist and well-known author, as deputy editor and senior photographer.
Pinnock, who in his working career has been an academic, lawmaker, radio broadcaster, journalist, much-published author of travel books and features and Getaway photojournalist for the past 11 years, brings a wealth of experience to the job of editor.
Commenting on his new position, Pinnock said he was looking forward to the challenge of taking a well-known publication to an ever-wider audience and making it the finest travel companion in Africa.
Stirling Kotze, publisher of Getaway and sister title Wegbreek, leaves in August to pursue business interests. Lahoud, currently circulation marketing director of Ramsay, Son & Parker, publisher of the two titles, is to assume responsibility for both magazines.
Describing Getaway as a superbrand and the standard-bearer of good travel journalism, Lahoud said she was privileged and excited to take on the role of publisher for the title, and enthused “at the opportunity of growing our fledgling Wegbreek into formidable travel magazine alongside it”.
Bristow will continue to contribute to Getaway as a consultant and regular freelance writer.
