How South Africa’s conservation efforts can thrive with Indian partnership

There are four awarded area categories (South Coast, Pietermaritzburg and Midlands, Central Durban and North Coast). There is also a 'Barista Personality Award', won this year by Kgune Dlamini of Lineage Coffee.
This year, the winners were Tea @ Baytree in South Coast Mall, Shelly Beach; Terbodore Coffee Roasters in the Midlands, Counter Culture in Ballito and Lineage Coffee in Hillcrest, Durban.
All the other finalists and the top 100 coffee shops around KwaZulu-Natal were published in a special insert on 30 October 2016 in the Sunday Tribune newspaper. Many former winners have gone on to represent South Africa on a number of international coffee stages.
This year, the judging panel included some of KwaZulu-Natal’s own stars with a taste for excellence, such as Darren Maule, Logie Naidoo, Vanessa Marawa and Sorisha Naidoo, who made up the 28 coffee critics judging the competition.
Marketing manager for Illovo Sugar SA, Darrell de Wet was delighted with the turnout and results of the awards. “It has been a privilege to be part of the growth of the KwaZulu-Natal coffee industry through our ongoing support of these awards. It has become an important platform for these participants to display their talents and passion for coffee. They have worked hard to win the recognition that comes with this award and should be proud of their efforts.”
