Give a little spirit this festive season

The national Spirit of Giving campaign, a collaboration among MySchool, Woolworths, kalahari.net and GetAhead, aims to donate 10 000 meals, 1000 books and educational software to under-priviledged children this festive season, with the help of the public.

To participate in the Spirit of Giving campaign, South Africans can either:

  • SMS the word 'KIDS' to 40267 and donate R20 towards the festive meal for Heartbeat and Noah orphans. SMS lines will be open until 25 December 2010;
  • Visit kalahari.net and select from the list of books that The Shine Centre requires; or
  • Purchase a GetAhead product for their child which, by so doing, makes a donation towards Motheong Primary School.

The four worthy recipients of the donations will be Heartbeat and Noah in Johannesburg and KwaZulu Natal; The Shine Centre in the Western Cape and Motheong Primary School in Atteridgeville, Pretoria.

Pieter Twine, MySchool's General Manager says, "During the festive season people want to help those less fortunate than themselves but are often unsure of how to do so. To make the process easier, during November and December we've set-up convenient channels to help feed a hungry orphan, donate a book to boost literacy among under-privileged children or give an under-resourced school educational software."

Adding to the goodwill, Woolworths has pledged to donate R100 000 to Heartbeat and Noah; for every book that is purchased from kalahari.net, MySchool will match the donations by up to R20 000, and it will also donate R100 for every purchase made at GetAhead's online store.

The Spirit of Giving campaign will run until 31 December 2010. For more information on how to help, visit www.myschool.co.za/spiritofgiving.
