The syllabus has been adapted to suit the needs of the learners with special emphasis on reading skills, communication skills and functional maths, enabling them to become independent working members of the community. Computer literacy, and therefore access to a functioning computer library, plays a huge role in this developmental process.
The donation means that the school can now continue offering Compu-Typing and Office Practice to their female learners and start offering computer training skills to the over 500 male learners who attend the school and need computer literacy for future employability.
"At West Ridge our teaching methods involve differentiation according to the child's ability, aptitude and interest. Access to computers enables us to teach them skills that will help them find jobs when they leave school. This donation will make a big difference in the lives of our learners", says Dr Seetal, the principal at West Ridge High.
"We are very pleased that we were able to assist the school with their new computer library. Our Thuso Fund supports four social development focus areas and the computer library at West Ridge is exactly why we started the fund in the first place - to fulfil education needs specifically within under-resourced and previously disadvantaged communities," says Pieter Twine, MySchool general manager.
