Chocks away, Bertie... Buy a book at the Cavendish Charity Book Sale

Cape Town's Cavendish shopping centre in the southern suburbs is staging a charity initiative for Children's Day (Saturday, 6 November) to support children's literacy, Thursday 4 - Sunday 7 November.

Cavendish Square Shopping Centre will turn the focus to children's literacy by adding celebrity glamour to books with the announcement of a new children's literacy initiative launching in the week of National Children's Day (Saturday 6 November).

The shopping centre will host a charity book sale from Thursday 4 November until Sunday 7 November 2010 in support of NGO Wola Nani's programmes for orphans and vulnerable children.

Apart from a normal array of adult fiction and non-fiction, the book sale will specially showcase kiddies books featuring both contemporary and classic children's titles for today's younger readers. In addition, there will be vintage children's books for adult collectors (Hardy Boys, Just William, Biggles, etc) as well as investment quality volumes showcasing famous children's illustrators (Arthur Rackham, Edmund Dulac, etc).

With a book you're never alone

"This is a great opportunity to celebrate the joys of childhood - at any age" says Well Read Books sale convenor Mark Leach. "From Harry Potter to the Famous Five, from Dr Seuss to the Borrowers and from Arthur Ransome to Roald Dahl - our November Cavendish Square Book Sale will not only promote children's literacy but will celebrate the inner child in us all".

"We are starting our charity book sale calendar with Children's Day," said Madrie Verwey, Cavendish Square marketing manager. "To promote children's literacy, we will be launching a kiddie's reader programme, where readers will either be celebrities, local children's authors, Radio DJ's or children's literacy volunteers.

This will be the first in a series of ongoing, themed charity book sales at Cavendish in support of children's literacy.

For further enquiries, to volunteer as a children's reader or to donate books, CDs and DVDs, please contact Mark on +27 (0) 83 342 2261, +27 (0) 21 424 0497 or email moc.skoob-daerllew@kram.
