Shortlist of South African authors out
Two previous winners, a Springbok rugby captain and three journalists make up the Booksellers' Choice Award 2010 shortlist, as nominated by South African booksellers. Nielsen Book sponsors the award, which aims to highlight the quality of South African writing and encourage new authors.
The awards have been running for over 10 years and previous winners include Antjie Krog (2004), John Van de Ruit (2006) and Peter Harris (2009).
2010 nominees
- Architects of Poverty by Moeletsi Mbeki
- Begging to Be Black by Antjie Krog
- Captain in the Cauldron by Mike Greenaway
- Plaasmoord by Karen Brynard
- Spud: Learning to Fly by John Van de Ruit
- The 30th Candle by Angela Makholwe
The Booksellers Choice Award and the Sefika Awards will be presented at the PASA and SABA conference to be held at the Wanderers Club in Johannesburg on Tuesday 17 August 2010. Nielsen Book's sales director, Simon Skinner, will present the award.
