New Vodafone world zones
From 1 December 2009, Vodacom has simplified its Vodafone world roaming service, by introducing three simple world zones with a fixed rate for voice, data and SMS in each zone. These predictable and transparent rates will now enable users to know exactly what to expect on their bill.
Vodacom's partnership with Vodafone also means that contract customers automatically qualify for a 10% discount on all calls made when roaming on selected partner networks and automatically qualify for a reduced super-saver data rate of R17.50 per MB of data used.
Three services
The three roaming services available to contract customers are World, Passport and SMS Roamer.
- World is the default roaming option for contract customers and lets them easily keep track of how much they're spending. In terms of data roaming, they are charged according to the world zone they are visiting, at a fixed South African Rand rate per MB of data used, ensuring the widest global coverage on partner networks. This enables users to know exactly what to expect on their bill.
- Passport customers can choose to make local calls or calls back to South Africa at their local South African peak, off- net, mobile terminating call rate after paying a once-off connection fee of R17.50 per call - enabling customers to easily keep track of costs while travelling.
- SMS Roamer lets customers stay in touch via SMS only - disabling all voice and data functions until the service is deactivated on return. With SMS Roamer, there is no monthly subscription charge and there is one SMS rate for contract customers of R2.75 per SMS sent regardless of the destination.
