New mobile shopping app from Toys R Us

Toys R Us has launched a new online shopping app to purchase toys, gaming and baby products via their mobile devices. Through the dedicated mobile app, users can browse and make purchases from the retailer's wide range of brands as well as receive notifications of promotions and new products. In addition, the app features search by category and store locator options.

"Our aim was to develop a functional and user-friendly app that provides customers with an easy and time-saving method of browsing and purchasing their favourite items," said Nicole Annells, Marketing Manager of Toys R Us, South Africa.

"The app's easy navigation provides customers with an enhanced shopping experience, allowing them to shop conveniently wherever they are and at any time," said Annells.

Reliance on mobile devices

According to statistics, there has seen significant growth in people's reliance on mobile devices as well as a boost in the market for online shopping in South Africa in recent years.

Research by the Interactive Advertising Bureau SA and online data measurement provider, Effective Measure, found that majority of South Africans use their cellphones throughout the day.

Of the 5,760 respondents in the Mobile Online flash poll 2015, 95% said the most popular benefit of using a cellphone was its immediate access to information. Three-quarters of respondents said they would be disconnected from the world without their cellphone.

"With people becoming increasingly reliant on their mobile devices, using them to browse the internet and even shop online, we realise the importance of providing our customers with added services that are easily accessible and convenient," said Annells.

The app is the latest addition to the retailer's Toys R Us and Babies R Us online shopping sites, which collectively boast nearly 350 product categories.

The app will be available on Android, IOS and Microsoft devices for free download.
