Second-time-around shoes from Woolworths

Woolworths has launched Eco Walkmates Recycled, children's shoes made from recycled materials offering not environmentally friendly shoes but also kids' feet friendly, carrying the seal of approval of the South African Podiatry Association. This product is part of the company's Good business journey, where it is committed to finding new ways to recycle, re-use and re-purpose materials that might otherwise go to landfill.

The uppers and laces of Woolworths new Eco Walkmates Recycled are produced from fibre made from recycled plastic: the uppers from plastic crates and the laces from PET bottles, while the soles contain 80% natural rubber and 20% recycled rubber. The eyelets (nickel free, in keeping with Woolworths 'no nickel' policy) are fashioned from aluminium - mostly recycled from cool drink cans, tins and aircraft parts, along with an element of new aluminium.

The shoes are available in sizes 4-11 in both girls' and boys' styles and retail from R180 in selected Woolworths' stores nationally.
