Afri-Forum protests action against Nestlé in Zim
The decision against Nestlé came after the company stopped buying milk from farms held in the name of Grace Mugabe, wife of the president Robert Mugabe.
"This step is yet another indication that the Zimbabwean government of unity is a sham," Afri-Forum said in a statement circulated on Monday, 12 October 2009. It quoted the chief executive Kallie Kriel as saying the Mugabe regime proves with this action that democratic opposition against them still won't be tolerated. The latest developments underline that "smart sanctions" targeted at Mugabe and members of his inner circle have to be stepped up.
"Appeals to call off 'smart sanctions' targeting Mugabe and his cronies, are a denial of the suffering of ordinary Zimbabweans at the hands of the regime on a daily basis," Kriel added.
