Top mental health journalists rewarded
The cash stipend of R25 000 each, as well as attendance at the 2011 World Mental Health Congress in Cape Town in October 2011, has been awarded to this year's Pfizer Mental Health Journalism winners, Biddy Rorke and Janine Shamos.
Cape Town freelance journalist and former features editor, Rorke, known from her work across many of South Africa's top consumer publications, this year encouraged readers to accept that mental illness affects people who look and sound exactly as anyone else does.
During her award year, Johannesburg freelance mental health writer Janine Shamos, who over the last 16 years has written extensively on mental health and made numerous appearances on television and radio, will write a series of articles about real South Africans who have struggled with, coped and triumphed over depression, anxiety and trauma.
