SABC board revolts

NEWSWATCH: Only a few months ago with the appointment of a new SABC board, South Africans thought - and hoped - that there would be an end in sight for the broadcaster's troubles and that it would begin to be managed properly. Faint hope... the new board is apparently up in arms with its chairman, Ben Ngubane, after a new head of news, Phil Molefe, was appointed allegedly without the proper procedures being followed, reports Business Day; subsequently, the board rescinded Molefe's appointment on Saturday, reports Times Live.

  • Business Day: SABC board revolts against chairman over news chief... The honeymoon is over, and the board has revolted... It's apparently 'in crisis' over its relationship with Ben Ngubane and wants the Minister of Communications Siphiwe Nyanda to intervene.

  • Times Live: Minister to meet board over SABC row... To some people it's probably beginning to look more like the script from a poor soap opera than the normal travails of a national broadcaster as the board says No! to Molefe's appointment.
