Media freelancer association adds student membership
Media students who are working as freelancers in the industry can now access membership and support of the Southern African Freelancers Association (SAFREA) through its new student membership option. This strategic decision is to ensure that new voices in the freelance field become aware of the benefits, as well as challenges of working, in a freelance capacity outside of the mainstream media companies.
At present, SAFREA is allegedly the only organisation representing the interests of freelance media practitioners. SAFREA also plays an important role in addressing such issues as exploitation due to poor terms and rates of pay.
Membership criteria can be found on www.safrea.co.za, which offers resources such as recommended rates, terms and conditions, best practice, training, jobs, industry news and highlights members’ achievements. Individual member profiles also act as an important resource for people looking to hire the services of media freelancers.
SAFREA currently has over 300 members.
