Our client is a reputable accounting firm in Pretoria, South Africa, specialising in providing comprehensive financial services to a diverse range of clients nationally who require in person consultations – these clients include farmers, engineering firms, mines etc.
Job overview:
As a junior bookkeeper, you will play a key role in supporting their team of professional accountants in delivering high-quality accounting services to their clients. You will be responsible for assisting with various accounting tasks, including bookkeeping, financial reporting, tax compliance, and general administrative duties. This role offers valuable hands-on experience and the opportunity to progress in your accounting career within a dynamic and supportive work environment.
Key responsibilities:
Bookkeeping:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records using accounting software.
- Process invoices, payments, and receipts in a timely manner.
- Reconcile bank statements and petty cash transactions.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Compile financial reports and analysis for management review.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
- Support the preparation and submission of tax returns for individuals and businesses.
- Assist in resolving tax queries and liaising with relevant authorities.
- Stay updated on changes to tax legislation and regulations.
General administrative duties:
- Provide administrative support to the accounting team, such as filing, data entry, and correspondence.
- Assist with client communication and coordination of meetings.
- Contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the accounting department.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Accounting or Finance.
- Registration or willingness to register as a SAIPA clerk.
- Proficiency in accounting software, such as Sage, QuickBooks, or Pastel.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and financial reporting.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and integrity in handling sensitive financial information.
- Two years previous experience in an accounting or finance role is essential
- Own reliable car and valid driver’s license
- Proficient in English and Afrikaans
- Willing to travel nationally if necessary
