Diesel Technician

Our client in Pinetown is currently seeking a skilled diesel technician to join their team. If you have strong technical expertise and a passion for high-quality workmanship, this role is for you.

Job description

• Support the workshop foreman, ensuring effective internal department relationships are maintained.
• Demonstrate exemplary task performance and efficiently manage your own workload.
• Accurately record all hours worked and sold.
• Ensure proper documentation of lubricants and parts used on job cards, adhering to systems and processes as instructed by management.
• Record the use of consumable items.
• Foster strong relationships with parts staff.
• Ensure that all tasks meet the required standards.
• Participate in relevant training programmes and share new knowledge with colleagues.
• Engage in personal learning and self-development.
• Maintain professionalism and courtesy when attending breakdowns, including interacting respectfully with customers and managers.
• Ensure proper dress and PPE when on duty.
• Ensure that the vehicle used is clean and presentable.
• Clearly understand the job requirements to effectively address breakdowns.
• Adhere to traffic rules; traffic fines will be directed to the offending individual.
• Build strong working relationships with colleagues and apprentices, promoting skills transfer and high productivity.
• Set an example in timekeeping.
• Accurately diagnose warranty claims based on the three Cs: complaint, cause, and correction.
• Take responsibility for apprentices, ensuring proper skills transfer and that they have equal opportunity for successful completion of their apprenticeship.
• Complete all apprenticeship documentation, such as logbooks, diligently.
• Adhere to all health and safety regulations and encourage colleagues to do the same.
• Follow company rules regarding the use of tools, special tools, and assets.
• Maintain a neat and tidy workspace.
• Promote wellness and confidence in job analysis within the team.
• Always wear the correct PPE as required for each task.
• Manage work hours, including overtime, in compliance with the Labour Relations Act.
• Communicate effectively with the workshop manager, ensuring clear and concise feedback to customers.
• Continue to promote the company as a trustworthy and reliable brand, embracing the philosophy of 'the customer is king'.

• Grade 12
• Diesel trade test completed
• Two to three years of experience in a similar role
• Code 14 licence with PDP
• Strong technical expertise, understanding, and knowledge
• Physically fit with good hand-eye coordination
• Attention to detail and good communication skills
