      Job summary: As the social media manager and business development lead for Johannesburg In Your Pocket, you will play a dual role in managing our social media presence and driving business growth through sales and partnerships. You will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive social media strategy, managing client relationships, and actively pursuing sales opportunities to expand our client base and revenue streams.

      Key responsibilities:
      • Develop and execute a robust social media strategy to enhance brand awareness, engagement, and audience growth across platforms.
      • Create and curate compelling content (text, image, video) that aligns with brand tone and objectives, ensuring consistent and relevant messaging.
      • Schedule, plan and implement daily social media posts, monitoring engagement metrics and optimising content performance.
      • Coordinate with the editorial team to promote editorial content, events, and partnerships effectively on social media channels.
      • Monitor client deliverables and ensure all content deadlines are met, maintaining up-to-date client contracts and relationships.
      • Implement paid social media campaigns, monitoring these daily, to achieve cost-effectiveness and optimal return on investment for clients and the company.
      • Provide timely reporting and analysis of social media performance, identifying trends, insights, and opportunities for improvement.
      • Drive business development efforts by actively seeking new sales opportunities and partnerships to expand the client base.
      • Develop and maintain strong client relationships through regular communication, accurate delivery of client content, and strategic recommendations.
      • Represent the company at events, creating social media content, and engaging with attendees to enhance brand visibility and network with potential clients.
      • Ideate and propose innovative ideas for content, client campaigns, and social media initiatives to drive engagement and growth.
      Additional responsibilities:
      • Stay informed about changes to key social media platforms and integrate updates into our strategy to optimise performance.
      • Review monthly plans and adjust strategies as necessary to meet business goals and client expectations.
      • Ensure all social media content is reviewed for accuracy and quality before posting, maintaining brand consistency and integrity.
      • Drive newsletter sign-ups through strategic social media initiatives and maintain an updated spreadsheet of subscriber changes.
      • Maintain an organised Johannesburg inbox, responding promptly to inquiries and ensuring efficient communication flow.
      Key performance indicators:
      • Achieve daily updates of client overview and progress, ensuring continuous improvement of client campaign results.
      • Conduct weekly assessments of social media performance, reporting on strengths, weaknesses, and growth opportunities.
      • Complete client campaign reports within three working days of completion, ensuring comprehensive analysis and actionable insights.
      • Meet daily social media posting deadlines, coordinating tags, visuals, and content to optimise engagement and reach.
      • Contribute weekly new feature ideas and report on event attendance and networking contacts made.
      • Drive sales and business development efforts, achieving targets for new client acquisitions and revenue growth.

      Requirements

      • Proven experience as a social media manager and in business development, preferably in media, publishing, or digital marketing.
      • Excellent communication skills with the ability to create compelling content, engage with diverse audiences, and negotiate partnerships.
      • Strong knowledge of social media platforms, analytics tools, and content management systems.
      • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data, generate insights, and implement strategic recommendations.
      • BA degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field.
      • Knowledge of Johannesburg’s cultural landscape and local events is advantageous.
      • An appetite for working in an agile small business environment.
      • Able to work well independently, and in a team.
