Improve operational management systems, processes, and best practices
Management of operations with the aim to reduce travel times of road users by having free flow traffic conditions through quick clearance of incidents on the road network
Ensure that Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and timelines are met and improved upon (in collaboration with TMC Assistant Operations Manager) through quality control and monitoring measures put in place
Help the organisation’s processes remain legally compliant
High-level management of TMC Staff - Ensure all operations are carried out in an appropriate way
Reviewing and optimising of the TMC work for the various TMC staff along with Supervisors
Motivate staff and encouraging teamwork amongst staff and law enforcement members collocating at the TMC
Development of professional skills sets of staff through on the job skills transfer.
Participate in updating Manuals and SOP’s
Liaising with external stakeholders (law enforcement) and building relationships
Advise and Coordinate Scene Management of External services and ORS personnel
Review / Oversee TMC Operations on daily, weekly and monthly basis
Coordinate (Develop and implement) the TMC Employee Performance Reviews i.e Abuse of Sick Leave, Incidents recorded and resolved
Ensure and coordinate the TMC Performance Management (Regional comparison and reporting of the Performance Management in general)
Review and Analyse Incident data and Statistics to make informed recommendations of improvements/enhancements of the network
Review corrective actions / trainings initiated for Operational improvements
Recovery Plan Implementation
Attending and chairing meetings such as monthly staff meetings
Skills
Grade 12
15 years management experience, preferably in a transportation or related operational environment
Valid drivers licence
Intermediate computer literacy skills (MS Office)
Knowledge of Road Incident Management
Systems will be advantageous
Proven work experience as Operations Manager or similar role
Ability to work in a high-pressure environment and high stress tolerance
Ability to proactively make immediate assessments, decisions and give instructions to staff on live traffic-related incidents. i.e. knowledge of organizational effectiveness and operations management

Company Description
Travelling between Pretoria and Johannesburg has become safer since the implementation of the intelligent Freeway Management System (FMS) in Gauteng over the last few years. The FMS assists motorists to plan and better navigate their way through traffic with the provision of real-time information on travel times and incidents on SANRAL freeways in the province. Medical, mechanical and law enforcement teams can now respond to an incident in between six and 18 minutes. FMS is active on about 251km of freeways in Gauteng and currently includes 10 incident response units, 10 towing recovery units, eight units for heavy recovery and six motorcycle medical response units stationed at strategic points on the freeways. All these units have highly trained first responders with specialized equipment and are operational 24 hours every day.
