Luis Figueiredo is the CEO of Atlantis Foods Group and founder of Atlantis Seafood Products, South Africa's third-largest fresh and frozen seafood processing and packing factory.
He hails from a family with deep roots in the fishing industry, having harvested seafood since the 1960s in Angola.
Figueiredo and his brother Sergio have built on that family legacy, first establishing a land-based operation in Walvis Bay which grew to a workforce of 800 workers opening markets predominantly in Europe, then founding Supapackers, now known as Atlantis Foods Group.
Using their entrepreneurial flair and vast experience in the processing and production of seafood, the business has grown into one of South Africa's leading seafood processing and distribution businesses.
Figueiredo is particularly proud of the ground-breaking empowerment deal in 2016 which saw the Atlantis Workers Trust assume ownership of, and derive the benefit from, the R200m plus factory, with 100% of its profits accruing to its workers - a real example of how true broad-based black economic empowerment can benefit both parties.
For Figueiredo, a life's passion is that this successful company, built from scratch, is fully managed and operated by the empowered workers of Atlantis Seafood Products.
