Dr. Farhana Paruk has a PhD in international relations, and has also obtained second masters, MBA from Buckinghamshire University in the UK. In 2008, she was awarded the Harvard South Africa Scholarship to study at Harvard University in USA.

In 2008, she was awarded the Harvard South Africa Scholarship to study at Harvard University in USA. She was also a fellow at the Weatherhead Centre for International Relations at Harvard. She has 15 years of work experience working in the private, government, academic, and the NGO sector. Farhana worked for several years for Government Communication and Information System- GCIS, in the Presidency in the media and International Relation. In 2005, she was appointed as the Marketing Manager for BMW at the head office. In 2007, she worked for the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) as a senior researcher and co-authored a book on "The Forum on China and Africa Cooperation". In 2011 she worked at UNISA as a lecturer. She is currently working for Barclays Bank, as geo-political risk analyst, focusing on terrorism and security threats in Africa
