He is the vice-chairman of World Design Capital 2014, and a member of the Western Cape's Trade and Promotions Agency (Wesgro) board. Whelan has extensive experience as a management consultant and business strategist and prior to returning to South Africa to lead Accelerate Cape Town, he was the chief knowledge officer for EY Knowledge (Asia Pacific).
