"These kids are always on their phones. They're so disconnected."
Egg Films’ Slim directed #ConnectYourWay, 1886’s vibrant new Cell C ad that celebrates all the ways the youth are actually more connected than ever.
Exposure’s Rory O’Grady shot the ad, which was art directed by Keenan McAdam and edited by Joe de Ornelas at Left, with Wondermerk adding all the quirky filters and effects you’d expect from a cellphone ad. Nola Williams had fun with the wardrobe, which was sponsored by adidas.
#ConnectYourWay was conceptualised by 1886, with Stuart Stobbs as executive creative director and Caroline Crowther producing for the agency.
Slim has also just released an unmissable director’s cut of Sine Metu, his Jameson ad with OpenCo about fearing a bit less and living a bit more.
After a graphic design degree and a decorated career in the advertising world, Slim made the leap to directing commercials. He has a strong visual signature, often employing unique solutions to technically complicated boards. His engaging performance pieces – ranging from the heartfelt to the peculiar – make for an unusually rounded body of work. True to his conceptual beginnings, Slim believes the concept should always dictate the style of the commercial. See more of Slim’s ads at eggfilms.tv/south-african-commercials-director/slim.
