Grain futures weaker on slightly stronger rand

South African grain prices were lower on Wednesday as the rand recovered some lost ground against the dollar.

Trade volumes remained low ahead of the summer crops harvest.

The rand was trading at R12.0817 at 12.06pm from Tuesday's close of R12.1213.

At the close of market on Wednesday‚ the white maize contract due for delivery in July 2015 was down R12 to R2‚575 a ton and the September 2015 contract had lost R17.20 to R2‚610.80 a ton.

The December 2015 contract fell R13 to R2‚655 a ton.

The yellow maize contract due for delivery in July 2015 was down R4 to R2‚354 a ton‚ the September 2015 contract fell R1 to R2‚390 a ton and the December 2015 yellow maize contract lost R2.20 to R2‚424.80 a ton.

The wheat contract due for delivery in July 2015 was down R11 to R3‚790 a ton‚ the September 2015 contract lost R4 to R3‚798 a ton and the December 2015 wheat contract fell R10 to R3‚710.
