Grain futures little changed ahead of summer harvest

South African grain prices were little changed on Monday morning despite the slightly weaker local currency.

Trade volumes remained low ahead of the summer crops harvest.

At the close of market on Monday, the white maize contract due for delivery in July 2015 was up R5 to R2,594 a ton and the September 2015 contract climbed R7.60 to R2,634.60 a ton. The December 2015 contract gave back R3 to R2,670 a ton.

The yellow maize contract due for delivery in July 2015 was up R7 to R2,365 a ton and the September 2015 contract was unchanged at R2,400 a ton and the December 2015 yellow maize contract inched up 20c to R2,429.20 a ton.

The wheat contract due for delivery in July 2015 gained R16 to R3,786 a ton, while the September 2015 contract rose by R24 to R3,789 a ton. The December 2015 wheat contract was untraded.
