Grains close softer due to lower CBoT prices

"We see the lowest trade volumes in April of all the months and this causes the market to move easily in any direction. The seasonal trend now is low volumes. In May there is a spike in volumes traded again‚ just before the maize harvest season starts‚" a local trader said.

The white maize contract due for delivery in July 2015 was down R32 to R2‚597 a ton and the September 2015 contract retreated R34 to R2‚636 a ton. The December 2015 contract closed R36 softer at R2‚679 a ton.

The yellow maize contract due for delivery in July 2015 gave back R9.20 to R2‚364.80 a ton and the September 2015 contract was down R13 to R2‚397 a ton. The December 2015 yellow maize contract dipped R8 to R2‚433 a ton.

The wheat contract due for delivery in July 2015 was R45 softer at R3‚800 a ton‚ while the September 2015 contract was down R40 at R3‚770 a ton. The December 2015 wheat contract was unchanged at R3‚750.
