Christel House opens admissions for first ever Gr RR class

Admissions for the July 2021 intake of Grade RR students are officially open at Christel House South Africa, a non-profit no-fee school based in Ottery, Cape Town. This is the first time in the school's 20-year history that it will be accepting students for Grade RR admission.

This admissions will be for children who will turn 5 years old in 2021 (born in 2016). With its mission of breaking the cycle of poverty, adding Grade RR to its Early Childhood Development (ECD) offering will give its students the extra head-start they need to succeed. The school only accepts students from severely impoverished communities on the Cape Flats and supports them for 19 years, from Grade RR to five years post matric, through holistic character-based and career-focused education.

Christel House SA currently enrolls 762 students from grade R to 12 and is accepting applications to welcome 60 new Grade RRs to the school in 2021. All students who are accepted receive full scholarships that include the cost of a quality education, transport to and from the school, healthcare, social services, daily nutritious meals, uniforms, and career support. In addition, Christel House is proud to maintain a 99% matric average pass rate, to be one of only four Microsoft Showcase Schools in the country and to offer its students a technology-enabled learning curriculum.

“Poor nutrition, limited cognitive stimulation and insufficient attention to health and developmental issues are a stark reality for many destitute kids in South Africa. We have successfully assisted students in reaching their potential for the past 20 years and are inviting prospective parents to apply for Grade RR at our school and give their child a chance at a brighter future,” says Eugenia Dlodlo-Sibanda, Dean of Student Development at Christel House SA.

Only applicants who meet all of the school’s qualifying criteria mentioned below will be considered:

  • Age: The child must turn 5 years old in 2021 (born in 2016)
  • Financial need: Your average household income must be R1500 or less per person per month. To calculate: Count the total income (salaries, social grants & stipends) your household receives per month (e.g. R5000 in total). Divide this number by the number of people staying in your house (e.g. five people) to get the average income per person. For example: R5000 divided by 5 = R1000 per person per month.
  • Location: The child must be a permanent resident in one of the following areas: Hanover Park; Manenberg; Tambo Square; Philippi Browns Farm (as far as Stock Road, no further); Philippi Farms; Jim se Bos; Smallville; Springfield; Phumlani; Lotus River; Strandfontein; Pelican Park; Lansdowne; Parkwood; Langa; Athlone: Kewtown; Bridgetown; Silvertown; Belgravia; Parktown; Pook Se Bos; Statishights; Bokmakierie; Ottery; Freedom Park; Mitchell’s Plain (Eastridge, Beacon Valley and Lentegeur only)
