Sarah Dusek, co-founder and managing partner for Enygma Ventures, said: “The education sector has been in need of an overhaul for a long time and the Covid-19 pandemic further highlighted this need for innovative solutions in the space. The Koa team brings with them years of experience in education, combined with an innovative and exciting approach to tackle this challenge.”
Lauren Anderson, co-founder of Koa, stated: “We are delighted to receive this investment from Enygma Ventures.”
Mark Anderson, co-founder of Koa Academy, added: “We are excited to be partnered with investors who want to create the sort of learning experience that schools and parents have been longing for – engaging, individualised and learner-focused.”
Koa Academy launched in October 2020 with a vision to create a personalised, flexible online school that is engaging, thanks to its small classes called ‘pods’ that host no more than eight children to a teacher.
The business was launched from the Startup Circles accelerator programne where they received pre-seed funding. This new seed investment will see the team grow its offering up to Grade 12 and expand beyond the borders of South Africa.
