At home with Tuis

The interim ABC for Tuis magazine was announced this week, and at an average of 52 492 copies per month, Tuis is now the largest Afrikaans décor magazine and the second largest décor magazine (including English titles) in South Africa.

Tapping into the well-known global trends of nesting, cocooning, comfort and simplicity and taking a lead from the incredible growth in the home décor market, Media24 Magazines identified the need for a practical home and garden guide pitched at the LSM 7 and 8 market and then added the extra dimension of publishing in Afrikaans.

Launched in June 2004, Tuis has already made its mark on the local publishing scene in an already vibrant market segment by positioning itself as the ultimate practical guide to turning your house into a home. Says Associate Editor Anneke Blaise, "The content is inspiring yet easy to achieve and aims to keep things real and simple. Whether it's buying or building, renovating or redecorating, gardening or growing herbs, cooking or catering or simply just good looking living - Tuis gives readers the tools they need to just do it... themselves."

The relevance of the magazine was affirmed by recent research conducted by the UCT Unilever Institute of Strategic Marketing for their "My home: Shelter, shack or showroom" project. They found that 96% of the population feel it's important to make your home comfy for your family and 72% of South Africans agree that when they have extra money they spend it on buying things for the home.

"We've been very pleased with the way the market has responded to Tuis. Wanting to improve your home is a universal phenomenon and Tuis is uniquely positioned to cater for this market," said Terena le Roux, Editorial Director
