NSRI receives R300,000 from Tintswalo Atlantic auction

Tintswalo Atlantic lodge recently reopened after the devastating Cape fires of March 2015 destroyed most of the lodge. The property is located within the protected Table Mountain National Park, situated just outside of Hout Bay off Chapman's Peak Drive.

The Phoenix Dinner, held on the first year anniversary of the fire, was held in honour of the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI). The NSRI were hugely instrumental in assisting the Tintswalo Atlantic team during the wildfires last year, which saw the lodge engulfed in flames.

The lodge suffered severe damages during the fire, with around 70% of the property being burnt to the ground. Now re-built and more beautiful than ever, Tintswalo Atlantic set out to raise funds, specifically to purchase a new rescue boat for the NSRI, and to promote awareness of all that the institute does for the local community.

Exiting items

The auction was the highlight of the evening, with an array of exciting items to bid on, from accommodation at Tintswalo’s various luxury hotels and lodges, and a signed (and as yet, unpublished) copy of Wilbur Smith’s latest book to a joyride experience in a racy McLaren and a four-night stay in a luxury apartment in London.

Auctioneer Philip Powell had guests reaching deep into their pockets - and they were extremely generous. Along with the sale of dinner tickets, and the overwhelming bids during the auction, Tintswalo Atlantic was able to raise R300,000 - far more than what was anticipated, and enough to purchase additional equipment for the NSRI Hout Bay base, over and above a rescue boat, which will be aptly named The Tintswalo.
