The crop estimates committee will on Thursday (26 September) deliver an updated report on summer crop estimates.

"A good harvest in Mpumalanga has compensated for the shortfall in North West‚ which encountered a dry spell during the production period‚" Vrystaat Mielies trader Marcel Lombard said.

In August‚ the maize crop estimate was increased by 1.04% to 11.5m tons‚ mainly based on actual producer deliveries‚ as reported by South African Grain and Information Service (Sagis) and better yields obtained for the yellow maize crop.

Producer deliveries are currently sitting at 9.84m tons‚ according to the Sagis data.
