On Friday, 9 May 2014, representatives of BPL Gauteng drove to Harrismith to deliver the cheque to help Hope House, whose desperate plight is to keep the home going for the 25 children currently living there.

The Hope House children's home was opened in 2004 with the original aim of providing a safe haven for children from the region who are orphaned and without care, either through neglect or placed in care by the courts. The facility was restored from a dilapidated and disused Transnet hostel and is able to provide warm, safe and friendly care and accommodation for approximately 30 children, from babies to teenagers.

The financial management of a facility of this nature is exceptionally challenging, especially in terms of obtaining enough funding, either from the Department of Social Development or private and corporate sponsors. At present, there is a significant financial deficit between funds received and expenses incurred, exacerbated by the limited corporate/industrial activity in the region.

BPL has committed to visiting Hope House on a regular basis going forward, with the purpose of assessing and engaging in future one-off short-term projects to further aid the organisation.
