Nationalisation not on the cards right now
A report by Business Live quotes National Planning Minister, Trevor Manuel as saying that nationalisation is not likely to happen in South Africa, even though it will continue to be debated in the years ahead.
He was addressing journalists after presenting the National Development Plan for South Africa in Pretoria. Investors in South Africa have been getting more and more jittery amid calls for nationalisation of the mines and properties from disgraced ANC Youth League President, Julius Malema.
According to the Business Live report, the National Development Plan referred to the issue of ownership of mining and mineral and warned that major constraints that impede the growth of mining had to be addressed and these included any "uncertainties over ownership".
