New association aims to promote Johannesburg tourism

Johannesburg City Tourism Association (JCTA), an organisation aimed at promoting and developing travel and hospitality in the inner city and surrounds, was officially launched on 27 September 2012.

The decision to start JCTA was taken by a group of key role players in the hospitality, transport, retail and travel agency sectors in the Johannesburg CBD and Braamfontein, who saw a gap for a collaborative body representing all those involved in various facets of tourism in the city.

JCTA acting chairman, Isaac Chalumbira, said Johannesburg is a diverse, dynamic and energetic city with vast potential to grow urban tourism like all the major cities in the world like London and New York. "The formation of JCTA will provide a platform to strengthen and forge partnerships and relationships amongst members and industry to share information, challenges and solutions for the greater benefit of the city. It also offers the opportunity to put collaborative effort in what we have to offer to local and international visitors."

The focus of the launch is to introduce the JCTA to all stakeholders, local government and media. For more information, contact the JCTA at az.oc.atcj@tairaterces.
