Boasting a breathtaking location, the hotel is within easy reach of the Constantia Winelands and Cape Point. Surrounded by fynbos and overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, Tintswalo is a place of rejuvenation and relaxation among nature.
Earlier this year, however, this scenic wonderland was engulfed by a kitchen fire on 5 February 2019, which destroyed most of the main section of the hotel, including the bar, kitchen, dining room and lounge areas, as well as one of the 11 guest suites.
But even after this devastating incident, Tintswalo rose from the ashes and re-opened for business on 1 October 2019.
I had the pleasure of experiencing its restorative glory within idyllic sea views, elegant dining experiences and accommodation which whisks you away to an island paradise.
A maximum of 24 resident guests are accommodated at Tintswalo Atlantic in 10 island suites and a two-bedroom villa. Suites are individually designed and named after some of the world’s favourite islands, from Robben Island, Madagascar and Zanzibar, to Java, Corsica and Sicily.
I had the pleasure of taking a trip to Madagascar, where I was met by coral blue, sea blue-greens and warmth of serenity like no other. With a view of the ocean and the accommodation’s natural beauty, I could have honestly stayed there forever.
The room, much like the rest of the island-themed accommodation, accommodates up to two people on a per room rate. Guests have access to an ensuite with a luxury bathtub and walk-in shower, his-and-her basins and huge Victorian baths with a selection of fragrant soaps and pampering bath products.
All suites have a lounge area with a wood-burning fireplace, and a tea and coffee station with an espresso machine, as well as a private deck overlooking the ocean and the pebbled beach below.
I could not miss out on the opportunity to make use of the complimentary bath salts or bubble bath and absorb the bathtub in all its splendour after supper.
And was supper equally magical.
Met with the sundowner cocktail of the day and a selection of canapés, guests have the opportunity to savour the tranquil environment of the hotel in the lounge area – set around cosy fireplaces – freshly decorated in signature blue and turquoise shades by owners, mother and daughter team Gaye Corbett and Lisa Goosen.
Once sundowners came to an end, we could visit the wooden deck to enjoy the fresh sea breeze.
What I liked about Tintswalo is that it’s not predictable – every day a new menu is created, so your taste buds would never get bored. With an elegant dining room and open kitchen, diners can enjoy an interactive dining experience. Waitrons, chefs, and even the guest relations manager has you feeling that you are always well taken care of.
Even up to when you're making your way back to your room – personnel are always ready to assist, no matter the task, with a smile on their faces. My bed was comfy and my sleep was rest filled (and being a Netflix fanatic - the free Wi-Fi was most welcomed and appreciated).
In the morning, I made my way to the dining area for breakfast. A full breakfast is included in your stay, with an assortment of options to choose from; from fresh fruit to salmon and cottage cheese, jams, and an English breakfast you can tweak to your liking.
My luggage was brought to reception (I didn't have to do a thing except pack my bag). But I think my most favourite part of my stay, was that of receiving a stone pebble, which I was prompted to make a wish with before my departure.
Standing on the wooden deck, eyes closed, bracing myself to make my wish – I truly felt the magic of what Tintswalo has to offer, and that indeed, my wish would come true...
