Green Point Stadium "useless" for low cost housing

Times Live says a suggestion that Cape Town's Green Point stadium should be transformed into low cost housing has been branded as ludicrous and ridiculous by Bob Goebel of the Green Point Ratepayers' and Residents' Association who points out that the title deed allows Green Point Common to be used only for sports and recreation.

According to the Times Live report, the suggestion to turn the stadium into a housing complex was made by Cosatu's Western Cape secretary, Tony Ehrenreich. Moreover, anti-arms-deal campaigner, Terry Crawford-Browne called for the stadium to be demolished, saying it was "wasteful" and had been "foisted on the city by FIFA".
