Xylem, a global leader in water technology, has presented 378 pumps to the Mvula Trust which will be used to support domestic water consumption in Setumong Village in the Limpopo Province.

The Mvula Trust has been providing water and sanitation services to rural and peri-urban communities across South Africa for nearly 20 years. The trust will oversee the distribution and installation of the donated pumps to the community.

"We have a responsibility to look after the needs of people in rural communities, who often do not have access to something as basic as clean water. We are very happy to be in a position to assist the Setumong community along with our partner, the Mvula Trust," said Vincent Chirouze, managing director of Xylem South Africa.

Strengths are skills and experience

The total value of the pumps donated to the Mvula trust is just under R400 000. "We hope that this donation will go a long way towards helping the Setumong community, and we look forward to more initiatives of this kind in the future," Chirouze added.

The Mvula Trust was formed initially to alleviate the critical situation in the early 1990s by setting up a fast and effective mechanism for funding community-driven water and sanitation projects. The organisation has been going from strength to strength since and is now in its eighteenth year of existence. Its main strengths lie in the skills and experience it has developed as both an implementing and policy organisation.

Mvula's origin and full range of expertise allows it to address all challenges related to water services, whether it is implementing new projects, providing support to water services authorities, establishing water services provider capacity, developing water services policy, or working with communities.
