
Cellphone ban may lead to lower insurance costs
Business Day says that if substantial fines were imposed on drivers who use mobile phones while driving, insurance premiums for all motorists would be lower according to Helen Szemerei, chief executive of Integrisure, a specialised insurance company.
According to the Business Day report, she was reacting to a new by-law in Cape Town that allows traffic officials to confiscate and impound cellphones being used by drivers while driving in that city. The insurance sector has welcomed the new laws.
