AAA learnership to empower GCIS employees

The AAA School of Advertising has embarked on a learnership programme with the Department of Government Communication & Information System (GCIS) that will see the institution offering lectures in marketing communication to 10 of the department's students, who will also gain practical, hands-on experience from GCIS.

The programme, which will deal with an array of marketing communication-related topics, aims to ensure that learners enrolled will not only walk away with a recognised qualification offered by an internationally accredited institution, but also become knowledgeable and skilled marketing communicators. In turn they will be able to contribute to improved productivity and efficiency within the broader government and marketing industry.

This is not the first learnership programme the AAA School of Advertising has embarked on with GCIS. The initial course, commencing 1 April 2005 and ending 31 March 2006, was an immense success. The institution trained ten learners from GCIS and three further participants from the Department of Foreign Affairs during this time.

This year's learnership will see the GCIS providing the venue, equipment, as well as a workplace for the on-the-job training. Government Communications will also provide a mentor for each learner who will offer personalised guidance and direction.

The learnership will run until June 2007. All lectures will be held at the Department of GCIS.
