    Blass jou vuvuzela!

Blass Jou Vuvuzela ft Jack Parow is the latest single and video from the Radio Kalahari Orkes's SAMA-nominated album "Heuningland". It's a proudly South African, zombilicious vuvuzela-blasting lacivious boeremusiek, rap braai liedjie that would probably leave many of our visiting tourists shaking their heads in amazement and bafflement and furthering the perception that South Africa harbours a small but far reaching crazy, black-humoured and satirical music scene.

What with the 2010 World Cup in our backyard, all eyes are on South Africa so it is great to see creative videos like this taking advantage of the scrutinty as well as seemingly sticking a proud middle-fingered vuvuzela salute to the vuvu critics out there.

Radio Kalahari Orkes's member and producer Dan Roberts had this to say about how the band and director Garreth Fradgley came up with the concept for the music video.

"Garreth had this image of ''n klomp boring mense wat rondom 'n tafel sit en eet ... ' He meant lifeless and boring, so I thought it would be cool to go the whole way and make them zombies. Mainly so we could, to the best of my knowledge, do the first boeremusiek zombie music video in the geskiedenis of the whole of mankind. Jack Parow became a Beetlejuice sort of character and Rian Malan was brilliantly cast as a zombie who rises to eat burnt flesh (braaivleis)." Rythym Records press release.

And here's what writer Rian Malan, one of the brainchilds behind and contributing lyricist to the Radio Kalahari Orkes's, had to say about working with Meneer Parow and shooting in, die hard SA music fan, De Waal Hattingh's backgarden.

"I bonded with Mr. Parow on the question of pokkies, which he just had, whereas I had it five years ago. He said the pokkies nearly killed him. This enabled me to utter the immortal line, "Jy dink jou pokkies was erger as ekke?" Someone should please send me his email so I can send him my pokkies horror pictures. I really almost vrekked, whereas he just got so sick that he showed up late and in his weakened condition, couldn't do the scripted blow-job scenes. "

"The neighbours in Melville were climbing on their roofs to check those kwaai bikini chicks dancing around his back-yard braai. I scheme they thought we were making a porn movie." Rythym Records press release

Blaas Jou Vuvuzela combines traditional boeremusiek with a tongue-in-cheek Michael Jackson Thriller-esque style to create a truly unique and nightmarish braai liedjie. Already with over 14,400 hits on YouTube in just less than a week it hopefully goes viral and follows in the cyber video notoriety footsteps of Die Antwoord. Bafana may be out of the running for the rest of the World Cup, but that is no excuse not to Blass Jou Vuvuzela!
