Rob van Vuuren, Unplugged and Unhinged

It's called Unplugged and Unhinged because Rob has no need for a microphone and has removed himself from the typical Cape Town scene. The show is held in the Kalk Bay theatre, which is intimate, seating only 78, and is owned and designed by Simon and Helen Cooper.

Intimate setting

You can order a drink at the bar upstairs (which is inexpensive) and take it into the theatre. Because of the intimate setting and the closeness of the stage, it's almost like you're at a dinner party with old friends - especially when Rob starts interacting with the crowd and, boy, does he do it well. The best part is that he allows the audience to converse with him too, and really get involved in the performance.

However, if you want to see Rob in action you'd better get tickets soon, as there are only two Sundays left and they are filling up fast. The price is only R70 and it's completely worth it - an hour of your life you'll want to repeat over and over again.

Amazing stage presence

Not only does Rob do stand-up, but he's also an amazing actor, has won many awards and also directed plays. He does this all while being a family guy too. He makes the whole experience personal and has the most amazing stage presence, which grabs you and holds you there until the very last standing ovation.

His facial expressions, the voices, accents and way of looking at the world is something I have never seen before. Unfortunately, this show is not for the young or the weak-hearted; however, it is for anyone who wants to laugh until their sides hurt. Oh, and be careful, he has no problem taking your phone, if it rings, and putting it down his pants - and that's no joke.
