Ambre... island living at its tropical best

"Alessandro is a very experienced hotelier. After his career in Italy and in Mauritius, we were very happy to recruit him in 2008 as general manager of Kanuhura where he contributed in establishing this hotel, a member of the prestigious 'The Leading Hotels of The World' network, as one of the best in the Maldives," says Fabio Piccirillo, CEO of Sun Resorts. Schenone took up his position on 1 June 2012.

During his tenure as general manager of Kanuhura, Alessandro Schenone, together with his team, enabled Kanuhura to win the 'Food Safety Asia Award' in August 2009, with the highest audit scores out of 22 resorts in the Maldives. Kanuhura was nominated in the 2009 'Conde Nast Traveler Magazine's Gold List' as the best hotel for facilities and also awarded 4th Best Resort in Middle East, Africa and Indian Ocean by Conde Nast Traveler in September 2008.

"Alessandro has managed both prestigious five star properties and four star resorts for the past 15 years. Irrespective of the rating of these properties, he has always placed a lot of emphasis on quality, service, excellence and team spirit. These values will definitely help Sun Resorts establishing Ambre hotel as one of the best hotels within its category very quickly," adds Piccirillo.

    Happy to be back

"I am happy to be back in Mauritius with Sun Resorts, an experienced hotel group with a strong and qualified team. Ambre hotel, which I know very well, is a good property, located on a prime site. With the operational expertise of Sun Resorts and our network of trade partners throughout the world, I am confident that Ambre will be a successful hotel. Throughout my career, I have always tried to focus on maintaining high standards of customer service and satisfaction. I will maintain this at Ambre," says Schenone.

Italian-born Schenone has had a very successful career with Veraclub before he came to Mauritius. He managed four 4-star resorts in the world before being appointed development & operations manager of Veratour Resorts in 2002. He was then overseeing the development and operations of 18 hotels worldwide. He then moved to Venice as hotel manager of the Hotel Plaza.

In November 2005, Schenone joined Appavou Group as a general manager of both Ambre Resort & Spa and Bougainville Hotel on the east coast of Mauritius. He was very much involved within the group and even received an award from the Mauritian government for his actions in the field of environment and the promotion of sport.

He was managing director of STB in Italy before returning to Mauritius and was involved in operations of three 5-star properties, namely the Fonteverde Tuscan Resort & Spa; Bagna DI pisa Palace & Spa and Grotta Giusti Resort Golf & Spa.

He is a graduate in economics from Genoa Institute in Italy and is married to Mauritian-born Malika.
