The hotel has, over the past 12 years, hosted major events and conference meetings, but it has, in the past, had to palm off rooms to neighbouring competitors. It will now be in a position to offer clients a one stop shop, avoiding the logistical problems associated with group accommodation being split.
The Birchwood Hotel and OR Tambo Conference facility was officially launched in 1998 with 80 rooms and two conference/meeting facilities. The hotel has since expanded and now covers 46 acres of prime land and provides free shuttle services to and from OR Tambo International Airport.
With the 2010 FIFA World Cup approaching, the hotel is one of the major role players in hosting delegates from across many different countries during the 30 days of the tournament.
