Morne Steyn wins the Sport24 Performance of the Year

All told, 8 140 votes were cast by the Sport24 readers, with 33.4% voting for Steyn's monstrous 53m kick to seal the series over the British & Irish Lions as the best performance of last year, edging out Smith's heroic batting performance with a broken hand against Australia. Both performances will however be etched in the history of South African sport.

In the Plonker of the Year category, Ras Dumisani had little competition for the award and romped to ‘victory' with 31.7% of the votes, ahead of former head of Athletics South Africa, Leonard Chuene, who received 19.2% of the votes.

In the Picture of the Year category, a photo taken by AFP photographer Gabriel Bouys during the Dakar Rally received 34.4% of the votes to walk away with the award.
