IPL Frees up tickets for opening week bonanza

In response to overwhelming demand for tickets, the DLF Indian Premier League on Monday announced that a number of seats reserved for franchises and DLF IPL will go on general sale on www.computicket.com for the 2009 season's inaugural series of double-headers on Saturday 18 April and Sunday 19 April.

The opening ceremony and first double header at Newlands is between the Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings, and then the Rajasthan Royals take on the Royal Challengers. On Sunday 19 April at the same ground, the double-header features the Delhi Daredevils against Kings XI Punjab, and Deccan Chargers against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Following the intense demand for ticket sales for the inaugural matches, DLF IPL says the release of additional tickets will help more cricketing fans witness the double bonanza in person.

Commenting on the phenomenal fan response to ticket sales for Season 2009 in South Africa, Lalit Modi, Chairman and Commissioner, DLF Indian Premier League said, “We are pleased to announce the release of additional tickets from some of the reserved seats for franchises and DLF IPL. We are indeed overtaken by the enthusiasm and the fervor of all cricket fans in South Africa and from India.

“We were extremely happy with the way ticket sales progressed for the inaugural double-header weekend, and now with the release of additional tickets we expect to see a record opening crowd. I would like to thank Cricket SA, South African government and our fans once again for lending their unprecedented support to DLF IPL Season 2009."

Computicket.com, the online destination for ticket sales to Season 2009, had reported heavy ticket sales for Durban, Pretoria and Johannesburg as fans rushed to secure their seats.

The schedule for Season 2009 in South Africa is available for download at www.IPLT20.com, the official online destination for the Indian Premier League.
