B-girl CJ and B-boy Toufeeq came out tops at the Cape Town Red Bull BC One qualifying cypher battle, this past weekend. The competition had the city's best breakers from the Western Cape province battle it out for a spot to represent their hometown at the national final.

Held at the Joseph Stone Hall, the cypher weekend kicked off with a series of workshops featuring the country’s top breakers, including Red Bull athlete Thomas van Tonder, Courtnaé Paul and Vouks, who highlighted various topics regarding training for a professional competition, the culture of breaking and what goes behind the scenes to compete at the top level.

“This experience was unexpected but when I arrived I was nervous because I wasn't sure of my competition. Once I started breaking all my nerves flew out of my head and I just had fun. Winning this competition was an eye-opener to me especially for the B-girls to represent; it's been such a pleasure to just do my thing today," said CJ.

"The Red Bull BC One has really afforded me a great opportunity, the competition was nothing short of amazing. The workshops were very insightful, shout out to all the people that made this possible. I'm grateful to be selected as the best b-boy of Cape Town," added Toufeeq.

The cypher weekends are now heading to Oudtshoorn where the city will announce a B-boy and B-girl that will get a spot to compete at the national final, set to happen in Cape Town on Saturday, 24 April 2021.

The remaining qualifying cypher and workshop weekend will take place at the Toekomsrus Community Hall on 20 March 2021.

The winners of the national final will go on to compete at the Red Bull BC One World Final in Gdańsk, Poland in November 2021.
