A knockout year for the Engen Knockout Challenge

South Africa's most prestigious under-17 football tournament, the Engen Knockout Challenge, has again created a valuable platform for football stars to showcase their talent.
A knockout year for the Engen Knockout Challenge

The regional tournament ran from June through to August 2015 in five regions across South Africa, namely: Port Elizabeth, Bloemfontein, Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town.

Scouts from top-flight teams like Mamelodi Sundowns and Supersport United once again utilised the celebrated regional events to search for their next great footballing talent.

Now in its 12th year, the Engen Knockout Challenge has touched the lives of some 20 000 participants across South Africa since 2003. It has become renowned for helping young hopefuls further their football dreams. Former participants that have taken this positive step, include: Thulani Serero, Ronwen Williams and Keegan Dolly to mention a few.

Adding to their ongoing commitment and support of the Knockout Challenge, South Africa's favourite Petroleum Brand has in recent years created the Engen Champ of Champs. This ultimate test sees the regional Engen Knockout Challenge Champions battle it out for the coveted title of being crowned the national under- 17 Engen Champ of Champs champions.

"Following numerous requests from clubs who were previously crowned regional champions, last year we introduced the inaugural Engen Champ of Champs to establish a national champion. We are extremely pleased that this further addition to our youth programme has proved such a great success," says Brad Bergh, Engen Group Sponsorship Manager.

This year's Engen Champ of Champs will once again bring together some of the country's powerhouse football brands in their quest to be recognised as the very best.

Regional champions who have qualified for the 2015 Engen Champ of Champs are: Chippa United from the Eastern Cape; Free State's Harmony Academy; Amazulu from KwaZulu-Natal; Gauteng champions Mamelodi Sundowns; and Ajax Cape Town. The final team making up this elite field will be 2014 defending champions and host club of the tournament, Supersport United.

Engen Champ of Champs will take place from 9 to 11 October 2015.
