Eat Out will count down from 20 to 11 at the awards, which will take place at GrandWest in Cape Town on Sunday 17 November 2019, before finally revealing the Top 10 restaurants in the country.
The nominated restaurants are determined by a panel of judges who score the restaurants against several criteria. All Eat Out judges dine anonymously around the country and pay for their meals in full.
Aside from Chief Judge Margot Janse, the panel remains anonymous so they can’t be recognised and receive special treatment; their experience of the restaurant needs to be the same as any other diners. There are no commercial affiliations required to make it onto the judging list.
“When judging, we expect nothing but excellence in all elements – from ingredients, preparation and plating, through to the ambience and service – and we’re inspired and more than satisfied,” says Janse. “The list of nominees is truly reflective of the modern culinary scene that South Africa boasts,” she adds
In addition to naming the Top 10 restaurants, the 2019 Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Restaurant Awards will also recognise the following winners:
