Expect the unexpected at ImproGuise's Improv Festival

It might sound easy to prepare for a show in which everything is made up as you go along, but it's actually quite hard. "We do physical and vocal warm up together and orientate ourselves in the space we are working," said Tandi Buchan, a long-standing member of Improguise. "Then we do focus and connecting exercises to get into the mode!" And, of course, there's a lot of training that goes into it, as many are sure to discover during an Improguise course.
Different themes
The festival includes 10 shows, each with a different theme. So feel free to pick Tuesday TheatreSports (short-form improv), Wednesday Westerns, Thursdays at Thornton Hall (in the style of Jane Austen), Friday Family Musicals (with singing too), and Super Scene Saturdays (directors create their scenes, pitch new ideas to the audience, and only the most brilliant one survives and is completed). Or just pick them all. You never know what to expect!
The ImproGuise Improv Festival is at Cape Town's Kalk Bay Theatre until 9 February. For more information, go to www.improguise.co.za and to book tickets go to www.kbt.co.za site.
