Counterfeit Grand-Pa powders in circulation

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Consumer Healthcare and the Medicines Control Council have announced that consumers need to be aware that counterfeit headache powders, sold as Grand-Pa Powders 38-count, bearing batch numbers 309339 and 314020, may be circulating in the South African market.

The pharmaceutical company is voluntarily recalling all genuine and counterfeit products bearing the same batch numbers: 309339 and 314020 in order to remove the product from the market and protect consumers.

It is advising consumers and retailers to check all product in their possession for the batch numbers. The affected product should not be used, as counterfeit medicines were not subject to the rigorous safety and quality checks by the company, as is the case for the genuine medicine.

Analysis is underway in GSK laboratories in the UK to determine the contents of the counterfeit products. Consumers should contact the GSK Consumer Care Line at +27 (0) 800 118 274 for any assistance.
