“We want to make a difference to those in need on 16 October,” explains Warren Farrer, group CSI executive. “We are planning to feed impoverished people on this day by providing them with a nutritious meal consisting of two pieces of Rainbow chicken, coleslaw made with Nola mayonnaise and a Sunbake bread roll. Every like on our CSI Facebook page, equals a meal pledged.”

World Food Day, first established in 1979, is a global campaign against hunger. On 16 October each year, millions of people around the world work to eradicate hunger. According to the campaign’s website www.worldfooddayusa.org, out of the world’s total population of 805 million people, one in nine people live with chronic hunger.

“The costs of hunger and malnutrition fall heavily on the most vulnerable – 60% of the hungry in the world are women; almost five million children under the age of five die of malnutrition-related causes every year; and four out of every 10 children in poor countries are malnourished damaging their bodies and brains.”

The meals donated will be personalised with the pledger’s name. Like the page here.
